4.6 to 5.0 conversion?

i'm looking at a 97 f150 with a knocking 4.6 engine (definatly bottom end)
is the tranny bolt pattern the same between the 5.0 /302 and the 4.6 engine
I have a '94 f150 engine if the swap is possible or is this a can of worms? what about electronics? thanks for the help. richard

Bell patterns are different.

Possible, but several cans of worms. Electronics is one can all by itself.

Find a 4.6, millions served.

bummer

i just found out that the first 2 casting runs on the 4.6(#'s f1ae and f2ve )had the later 302/5.0 pattern but yeah . the electro brain thing just scares me. i was really looking for an "easy" button. where is the casting number anyway, under the intake manifold?

Not sure where the block casting number is on the MOD motors but in any event it was the early '90's CrownVic that got a 4.6 with the same trans bolt pattern as the old windsor platform, and that corresponds with the casting numbers you posted above.. F1AE = '91, F2VE = '92. That means your truck 4.6 doesn't have the same bolt pattern so the 5.0 you have ain't gonna work without also replacing the trans, wiring harness and computer.
