1981 4.9 4 speed E150 with ghosts in the electrics

Many thanks to all here who helped me get this van running. It is going great, passed emissions with flying colors, and starts and runs great!
That is untill yesterday.I have a new Gates Optima battery, new cables, with factory swedged ends.and it was starting and driving great.
The volt meter never moves.????
Yesterday, I start the motor, the seat belt buzzer light comes on, but won't go off.I drive away, thinking the box has shorted, and I will disable when I stop. Then ALL of the gauges go to dead, with the key on, but it keeps running,(I think with a slight miss).
I parked it out front, and today,I looked at all the wiring briefly, and no melting, rubbing, or burnt smell, and the fuse block looks good.
Question is, does this sound familiar,is it a symptom?
I think I had a Isuzu pickup, with similar act, that wound up being an alternator. On the van, is the regulator external,(seperate),from the alternator?

WAG alert:

Check your grounds. Basic battery ground, engine to frame, firewall to engine, dash to firewall etc. Look around for any ground wire that might have come loose.

Just a theory based on some goofy electrical behavior I experienced long ago.

Thank You!!

There was no negative wire from the alternator. The brackets that hold the A/C ducts,(that had a ground washer),was loose. But I am really note sure which it was, because after reading your post, I went to the hardware, and bought an assortment of those in/out toothed washers, and put them everywhere I could see.The solenoid, the headlight grounds, the new ground wire to the alternator, and the ones behind the instrument cluster,on the steering column.
Starts better, lights are stronger, amp gauge works, seat belt buzzer SOUNDS OFF, and goes away correctly. All my ghosts are gone.
Once again, THANK YOU!!!!
