400 cam timing

I have been reading all over this thread and many others about the EGR'd 400 and the retarded cam timing. I am replacing the water pump in the next few days and figured I might as well replace the original timing set.

I have deleted all the EGR non sense and want the cam dialed in correct for non EGR engines. The last time I did anything with a timing set was 10 years ago. At that time I just set the engine on TDC and aligned the dots on the cam and crank gear.

So what do I need to do to dial it in correctly?

Thanks!

You want to get it back at zero. You can either get a stock replacement chain and gears for a 1970 351 cleveland or get an aftermarket double roller chain and gears and set the crankshaft sprocket in the zero slot.

J ballan is starting off with a positive reputation.
I picked up a double roller from comp cams and it looks like good quality for a reasonable price.
