rear calipers???

this is mainly an info thread to those who need it....

well i went into my local Advance Auto parts store to get new calipers and pad for the rear of my 2000 EX. parts were pulled up in the computer and was told for a few bucks more, they will come with new brackets, slide bolts, boot and all. only thing was there were not in stock. he gives me the part numbers, so i go straight to my iPhone and put my order in for some Wagner Thermo-Quite pads, 32oz of Dot 3 brake fluid, and some brake cleaner to be picked up in store and i use a coupon code and save $30. then i place a second order for the calipers to be shipped to my home. i even put in my 2000 EX and come up with the same part numbers for the left and right calipers as he did in the store. use another coupon code and save $50 plus free shipping. well all parts arrive and it is now monday afternoon at 5pm when i start. i do the right rear first and all goes good. then when i get to the left rear is when start scratching my head. the bleeder is on the bottom. thats not right.
i start looking closer. the right rear, the caliper is mounted to the rear of the truck, but on the left rear, the caliper is mounted toward the front of the truck. so really the calipers r the same on both sides. luckily the nice manager at the local Advance left me return the one i had for the left rear and keep the bracket and he sold me another right rear. he also said he has never seen this happen. well job was done and i was back in the store by 830pm to return my cores.

moral of the story, if all EX's have the same rear caliper mounts like i do, u need 2 right rear calipers.

They changed that later in production. Can't recall exactly when but I always thought it was kinda stupid looking on my 2000. But hey...probably saved 'em $$ by only using one type of caliper.

Yeah...not the same axle or even axle manufacturer though! (Sterling versus Dana)

Weird, huh? Some guy at Ford musta specified it or something. He lost his job and some Fung Shui guy took his place and wanted "balance".
