what torque ft/lbs for diff bolts on 96 f250

what torque ft/lbs for diff bolts on 96 f250

Just changing the fluid. I figure 90 lbs is good, but I want to know for sure.

I don't know what the actual spec is, but 90 ft-lbs seems like quite a bit to me.

it is way too much i just tighten them to 20 ft lbs

Pretty sure I used some loctite and torqued them to good-n-snug.

thanks i will p b blaster the bolts now and do it tomorrow. I figure to clean with brake cleaner, seal it up good n tight, then refill with3 1/2 quarts of synthetic

90 lbs is way too much, in my opinion. I dont have a clue what the book says, but id bet its not that high. I would do 20 as Rodney said. Idk about the lock tite, but if you do make sure you use the stuff that is removeable with tools. I believe its the green stuff. Dont use red or blue.

Hope this helps a little lol. I need to redo mine since the spots in my driveway tell me i missed a spot with the RTV

If your using a gasket, make sure you tq them even.

if your using RTV, snug them up good.

Thats how I do it at least.

oh... i've never torqued those bolts either just snug 'em real good and watch for a drip for a couple days... my 2 pennies..

Blue is fairly easily removed by hand tools. I've done red before too but you have to really use some gorilla snot to get em out without heat. I like the blue.

I never loctite my diff bolts.

Usually the RTV helps hold them in though.


I've honestly only had to use heat to break loose loctite a few times.
I usually break it easily with a wrench.

Maybe I'm a he-man?
