A little late, but...
I'm Joe, and I live in San Diego. I own an '04 F250 Supercrew turbo diesel, more on that in a sec, and a '68 F100 Stepside with a 460/C6 combo. The reason I got the '68, which I named Sweety, is the fascist government of California wants me to smog my diesel, and of course the reason I bought the damn thing was no smog check, and also of course I cut the cat out and left it for dead. I'm a disabled vet, and have the plates. They're fee-free, no cost, ever. So I pay no registration fees, but they still want me to smog her. In other words, she's exempt from everything but a smog check. Be the same if I had the plates on a Bentley. Anyway, I put a cat back on, was told it had to be the dealer-only part, price: $1911.00. She didn't pass, she didn't fail, so I couldn't even go to the ref or get in a program. Got so pissed I parked an '04 F250 with less than 40k miles in my driveway and bought a '68 F100. No smog checks, no muffler checks, nothing. Costs me $48 a year to register. After that all went down, I found a nice kid in Lakeside who buys stolen-recoveries and chops them for parts. He sold me a Ford cat with 4 feet of exhaust and two hangers for $200. So the 250 is back in service as a parts runner and Sweety is my main set of wheels. No power nothing, just the way I like it. Anybody needs parts for '00 or newer big trucks, lemme know and I'll hit ya with the kid's number. I dunno, but all this technology is handy, but it hasn't made my life any better. Driving Sweety, singing to myself, squeaking 'em off a red sitting next to some kid in a brand new Camaro makes me feel mighty fine. Having grease under my nails again feels pretty damn good too.
Anyway, if you need help, need a tow, or just wanna stop by and hear a 460 rumble drop me a line. I'm around, most of the time.
Take care,
Joe
