97 e250 (5.8) blowing fuses

was doing some work on a friends van, wipers would go on, no brake lights, and a few other things. so i replaced the wiper selector switch and all was well. about a month goes by, he tells me his tail lights, speedo, and odometer stopped working. so i crawl under the dash, find a few blown fuses (20a, 15a, and a 10a) and a 6 prong plug unplugged. so i plugged it back in, and put in all new fuses and everything was back to normal, until he got about 2 mins down the road, the odometer went out, and shortly after the tail lights went out. not great with electrical stuff but i imagine there's a short some were, but to affect 2 or 3 different circuits? maybe a common problem with these vans? any help appreciated.

Not a common problem for multiple fuses to blow like that. You need some professional eyes on it to look for a major short, possibly from a burn through somewhere or pinched harness.

Look carefully at the fuses, look in the little window where you can see the wire element inside. Is that lil window black and charred, or is it clear and you can see a melted wire inside of it?

Black/silver/burnt = short circuit/instantaneous overload
Clear window = overload over a period of seconds/minutes

What does the manual say is on those circuits?

EDIT: oh, just noticed this forum don't get much activity... didn't see this thread was almost a month old. Well, good luck either way.
