Milwaukee1979F150 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
What correct coolant for 5.4L in F250?

I was nervous after bought 99 F250 with 243K miles with nasty coolant.

Long story coolant were nasty green mix brown. It ate alum head. End replaced with 2001 E250 5.4L 100,475k miles.

My friend who is engineer told me that 5.4L use special coolant not regular green coolant like Walmart supertech? He say some coolant will eat alum?

I been reading in owner manual it doesn't say about specify coolant.

1999 F250 5.4L 2wd 5.4L auto with over 246K miles. Got used 5.4L with 100K miles. Need find motivation to install 5.4L.

I believe the factory fill is a yellow/clear coolant. That said I have run green universal coolant in a lot of them without any issues.

Ford switched to the Motorcraft Premium Gold coolant (Zerex G-05 the same) around the 2002 model year. The earlier trucks used the green coolant. There really isn't anything wrong with the green coolant however it has a shorter change interval and doesn't have as robust of an additive package. IMO the Premium Gold coolant is a better coolant.

I would do a complete system flush to remove all the old coolant and switch over to the Motorcraft Premium Gold or Zerex G-05.
