I have a 92 F-250 4 WD w/the 5.8 liter engine. I have just completed a tuneup but I am still having problems with my engine sputtering when I give it gas. Any thoughts?

Fuel filter? Check the fuel pressure too.

 

I did a tune up to include the fuel filter

 

That leaves my question about fuel pressure.

It's also always a GREAT idea to check for any stored codes. Many times there can be a stored codes or issue that would cause the KOEO tests to fail without having a Check Engine Light on.

One other thought: Do you have dual tanks? Does it happen on both?

 

Did you pull the engine codes? If your truck had dual tanks than see if it does it on both tanks. Did you put on a new coil when you did the tune-up? Does it do it all the time or only when it's warm or cold?

 

I did not check the coil. I will do that and I did not check the other tank I will do that as well. Thanks.

It will not allow codes to be pulled Readers pick up nothing.

 

You're not getting ANY codes or you're getting or are you getting the code saying there are no trouble codes?

 

I am not getting any codes, after several different readers it refuses to run the test.

 

How much can you rev it before it starts sputtering? Does ur truck have a tach? What you're describing sounds like computer problems. I've seen this problem 2 times in the past month and the computers were fried. You could rev it up to about 2200 and it'd cut out and die even slowly revving it. And if you can on it quick it chokes right away. Sound familiar?

 

Not being able to retrieve codes or run diagnostics is a symptom of a bad PCM.

 

Exactly. Especially with multiple scanners. It should at least throw a code to say that it's not detecting any problems.

 

Have you tried to just ground the single wire that goes to the code reader and get the codes watching the CEL flash. I couldn't get my 92 to give up codes with a code reader but when I ground the single wire it works just fine. Goos like getting it diagnosed
