This story is about my dads boss. I heard he swapped out his 6.0l after it needed a whole bunch of work. You know the usual 6.0 problems, and got a new 6.2 truck instead. He was going on a camping trip and sounds like he couldn't wait the couple of days to get it fixed. I know he is happy now and the maintenance he will have to do is a ton less. Like fuel filters, huge amounts of oil for oil changes, etc. All i heard about is decreased mileage but i think the trade offs were worth it to him.

 

Those new 6.2s are BEASTS! Thirsty beasts but worth it!

i had an 07 6.0 and now an 11 6.2 and the milage is only slightly worse with the 6.2 im gettin 15 driving to work on a mix of country roads highway and a little city driving but thats being easy on the pedal and keeping on about 60, 8.3 towing travel trailer the 6.0 i had wud get 16-17 and 9.5-10 doing the exact same thing both trucks had 3.73 gears

I do like these truck. Maybe i'll buy one when i get out of college.

I did notice the emissions diesels seem to get horrendous mpg. The 6.7 i think does a ton better due to scr and urea. Not that i know anyone with a 6.7 but i see them on the road all the time. I have to look for the badge on the side since you can't hear them .

 

The mpg's (among other things) in the 6.7 are impressive. Empty they seem to get in the high teens/low 20's, and loaded (~15k lbs) mpg's are better than I get empty. I don't sweat it though, I have a 2 wheel gas sipper that offsets my eco-friendly 6.2.

Nothing like a shortcut through the woods on the way home from work to take away from the monotony of traffic.

 

Sounds like the mpg is getting back to where it used to be. I get 16 city and 21 highway with my idi empty. But, it has much less power.

Can't beat those 2 wheeled machines. Enjoy the country roads. Just what i need though more junk. Haha!

But i see it this way. You use a lot less oil and filter waste.

If i got a newer truck i'd get a gas one. Really the only reason i own a diesel now is i got it for a steal, and the old idi's are very unique, and cheap to maintain.

Plus ford gas engines just get better built every year. The new ones are leagues ahead of the old ones, and i have no problems with the old ones. I once asked someone have you ever had a problem with a gas ford truck? Nope. This guy works at our public works department and he owned a 70, bunch of 80's 90', 2000s. He has owned 3/4 ton ford truck since his high school days.

I'm a computer guy but i love chatting up these guys. I'm a little bit of a mechanic on the side too.

 

It was a hard decision going with the 6.2L gasser, but I'm really glad I did. It's proven to be a great, trouble-free engine. Yes, the MPGs aren't as great as my old 6.0L PSD, but less cost and maintenance are worth it.
