Installing Wide Windshield Trim

Installing Wide Windshield Trim
I am new to FTE and working on restoring a '78 F150. I found some used wide windshield trim from a parts truck, but I have no clue on how to install it. I bought the correct gasket from JBG, but not sure how to put the trim on. I have seen some threads on here that say you have to put the trim in the gasket before you put the windshield in. Is this correct or is there an easier way? Please Help!

Nope, put the windshield on a bench or sawhorses and install seal and trim first.
I used the rope trick which is getting some soapy water or similar and soak the rope in it. Run rope around the groove in the seal and cross the ends. The rope will be on the inside of the cab when you set it up there. I had 2 helpers, one on each side to push a bit from the outside while I pulled the rope from the inside to get the lip of the seal on the inside of the cab.
If you search I'm sure there are threads with a better description of the process.
Make SURE your trim is all the way on!!!!!!
Ask me how I know.

1973/76 F100/350, 1977 F100/350 before serial number O80,001 were available with wide stainless steel windshield reveal mouldings.
The w/shield weatherstrip used with these mouldings: D3TZ-1003110-E has a groove in it.

1977 F100/350 from serial number O80,001, 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco's were available with a one piece flexible plastic chrome w/shield reveal moulding.
The w/shield weatherstip used with this one piece moulding is D7TZ-1003110-B
This moulding has two layers of paper on its backside. When the outer layer is peeled off, the adhesive layer is revealed. The moulding is then glued to the weatherstrip.
The flexible moulding and weatherstrip have been reproduced by Dennie Carpenter.

1973/79 F100/350's & 1978/79 Bronco's without windshield reveal mouding use a different weatherstrip: D3TZ-1003110-F
It takes three people to install a windshield. One on the inside working the string, two on the outside, one on either side holding the glass in place.
Suggestion: Have an autoglass shop install it. They do 1000's a year have the personnel and the tools to do it properly.
Note: CUT the old weatherstrip off inside the cab using an xacto knife, then remove the w/shield. If you attempt to remove the w/shield without cutting the w/strip, you'll break it.

Wow Number Dummy. Looks like you've done your homework. I know that the wide windshield trim wasn't used on the 78s and 79s. The nice thing about restoring one of these trucks is that you have the choice of making it your own. So, that's what I'm doing. And as far as hiring someone to put my windshield in, I can do the work myself and not pay a glass shop to do it. Just needed to know how it worked.
