I have a couple of questions.

I replaced a bad leaking rear axle seal.

my book is hard to fallow on instructions

The book says to pack the bearings. docent the rear end lube them ?

Im using the old bearings. they looked good. no discolor or pits.

then it says to torque the ratchet nut to 60 Ft lbs and back off 7 clicks for used bearings.

the only thing i didn't do was pack the bearings when i pit it back together
i have not driven the truck yet. should i pack them or is it ok because there was no grease in them, only oil when i pulled them out.

and is this 60 lbs and 7 clicks back right ?

 

Ok, I guess being over medicated is better than living in pain.

Pulled it apart and packed the bearings and did the 60lbs and 7 clicks back

 

My manual said to put gear lube on them, I still used some grease anyway... You need to put something in there because until you drive it and make some turns, gear lube won't work it's way down into those bearings.

But yes, that sounds right - 60 ft/lbs, 7 clicks back. I would spin the hub while doing this just to make sure the bearings are fully seated.

I just did one of my rear bearing seals...
