87 F150 manual tranny races before delivering power.

I have an 87 F150 with a manual tarnsmission. When I shift the engine races for a few seconds before power is felt. Any ideas?

Is this with the clutch pedal let all of the way out, if so it sounds like it is time for a new clutch set and flywheel resurfacing

It does happen with clutch pedal out. i will try replacing those parts. Thanks!
