Ive got 30 lbs of fuel presure that drops to 28 if you rev it up a bit on a 1998 ranger 4.0 with a new fuel filter. Haynes manuel say it should be 56-72 lbs. Bad news is fuel presure regulator is in the tanks with the pump. Can the regulator be swapped out or is it one assembaly with the fuel pump? is there anything i should check first? thanks Eckart

why are you focused on the Regulator?...... with the limited fuel pressure info you gave I can not tell if the regulator(they dont fail very often) the check valve or the sending unit is OK..........my guess is the pump itself is bad.....if you are short on cash you can just try the pump.....but most people swap out the sending unit with the fuel-pump..unless you have a lift, removing the bed is the best method.

My son just bought it. it has a few issues. Fuel pump in it is 3 years old. the truck sat for 1 year. I think pump or regulator. I have never came across a low presure pump before they seem to either work or not. Not saying I dont think it could happen. It still has its original regulator. Seemed like something to check.
Assume you are aware you can simply unbolt bed, remove filler neck and wiring harness and slide back bed enough to access pump in tank. No need to drop tank.
