head lights out, cluster wont light up

thread title says it all, my head lights will ONLY work when i pull back on the high beam lever, and i have to hold it there for it to stay on. and also my instrument cluster wont light up. turn signals work, brake lights work, so idk if the problem is with the multi function switch or if its in the steering column somewhere. any info will be great. thanks.

i have a 95 F-150 with a 5.8l. I did a search but i found no answers.

I would bet on the headlight switch and the connector at the headlight switch.. I'll bet you will find the plug burned to a crisp....

Since the flash to pass part works I doubt it's the multifunction switch.

If it is the switch then a possible cause is if you added hi intensity headlight bulbs. A headlight relay harness will cure the problem. The switch has enough problems with regular headlight current draw.

Another question. Why would my AC and heater only blow out from the defrost vents?

And also how do I check for codes? And what would I need to do so?

Low vacuum, 90% chance it's the white vacuum line on top of the A/C box under the hood.

thanks for that link.

i checked the white vacuum line and that looks fine. but there are two black lines coming out of the AC box and they meet at a 3way, the third line is rubber, that one is not connected. not sure where thats supposed to go.
