Question 1999 Ranger AirBag transfer in a 1998 Ranger

We have a 1998 Ranger that the airbags went off we also have a 99 Ranger took both sets of airbags out and compared the # being different. The Senor module on the 98 is mounted on the outside of the core support, we want to know what we need to do to make this task work. Installing the airbags from the 99 into the 98 can't be rocket science.
I am sure we are not the 1st or the only ones to try and make this work.
We would appreciate your tome and advice,
Thank you in advance for your help to provide a solution.

Airbags with no reply

We are going to try a total transplant of the airbags system from our 99 ranger into our 98 ranger have all the parts should just be a lot of labor & fine tuning the computer.
Any one else out there try this?

I have never done a complete overhaul of the SRS system but i definitely have replaced the passenger side airbag in my 97 with one from a 98 which finally after 3 months made the airbag module happy enough to stop beeping. So it can be done but different years may give different results. It certainly doesn't hurt to try just make sure you unhook the battery before attempting it. You don't want the airbag deploying in your face when hooking it up if something happens to go wrong.

Yes, they made a larger changes going in 99 to make this task more of a challenge.
Will be working on that project next week after a quick few days off. Will post our results, Did purchase another 99 Ranger 4x4 3.0 automatic and the passengers airbag light is not going on when the truck is first started. Not sure if we will fix that truck or make another parts truck?

Yea I believe the the model string ended with the 98 (1995 - 1998) marking the 1999 model the "all new" model. Most parts within the 95 - 98 string are interchangeable with different years in the same string (Ex: Passenger airbag from a 98 will work in a 97 and vise-versa).

After start the airbag light should turn off if all is working properly.the light not coming on at KOEO indicates there is a problem with the system but the airbag itself may still be perfectly fine.

Keep us updated on how the project is going and if you get it working right perhaps a tutorial for anyone else trying to achieve the same thing?
