Problem with shifter/NSS/starting on E40D
So I know I have some sort of issue with my E40D, I am just not sure what.
When I try to start the truck, I need to move the shifter to find the place where the new neutral safety switch will let the truck start. But I don't think that is the only/main issue. The shifter has A LOT of play. So I went under the truck where the shifter linkage connects to the tranny (https://i.imgur.com/w3uIs.jpg) and noticed I can move the shifting bracket (middle of picture) to the front of my truck about an inch, and then I can move it back just as easily. It is that play which concerns me.
I don't see much in the way of adjustments in this area so can someone possibly tell me what may be going on and how to fix?

A bit of follow-up...
I was shifting through the gears (battery is disconnected) and noticed I can't get into 1 easily. When I get it into 1, it doesn't want to stay and pops to 2 if I lightly push the shifter up. So I think something is stretched or out of alignment with the shifter and cable.
