shifter cable adjust

i read about shift indacator not lined up,but my 98 expidition take time to shift from park into gear.if backing down hill will not shift out of park.how do you adjust cable?thanks

The problem you described will usually occur whenever the truck is parked on a hill regardless of the direction the front is pointing, up or down. I have found that the best way to avoid the difficulty you describe is to engage the emergency brake before shifting into park and shifting into whichever gear you want before releasing the emergency brake. It would seem that you are fighting the weight of the truck that is applied on the park pawl when the truck is parked on a hill. I don't believe that a cable adjustment will help.

thanks for writing.problem happens on level ground also.was told could be stop light switch by brake pedal,when moving switch around it would shift from park,changed out with new,still same problem.maybe shifter knuckle in column.
