Paint cost on ext cab?

I caught wind of a 78 frame off restoration that is in the final stages. 460 auto, air, interior needs door panels, exterior ready for paint. I didn't want a 460, but if it is what it says how can I beat $3500?
Before I drive the 3 hrs to the truck I'd like to get some real quotes on paint from you guys. What have you paid to get one painted? Thanks.

maaco will probably paint it for like $500 if you get it on special and if you don't mind having part of the trim painted, some drips, runs, sags, orange peel... basically no prep done, just spraying it down in a single stage color, usually only give you a couple colors to choose from. They won't do door jambs or under hood or inside the bed or any of that stuff either. But it will look good from 20 or 30 feet, better than gray primer.

You can save a lot of money by masking the truck yourself and removing all the trim and etc, but a good body shop would probably charge $1500 to do a single stage solid color (though some still use color/clear, just depends on what they want to do).

I would pick it up. My paint cost $750 for 2 gallons of color and 2 gallons of clear. I'd say if you could find someone to spray it for you then you could get it done pretty easily. Maybe someone on FTE lives near you that could help you out.

If it is the truck in the pic, let me know if you don't buy it

I just took mine into the shop (reg cab) to have some minor bodywork, single stage paint and sprayed in bedliner and was quoted $3200

It IS the truck in the pic, and I'm not buying it. Monday the upstairs air unit blew hot air all day. My wife just called and said the unit is toast and she wants a unit before a toy. There goes $2200 of my cash. The truck is on Louisville Craigslist mislisted under 1878 ford.

Saving $100/week towards the Ford purchase, this setback has cost me 4 months time.

That's funny. The "discussion" my wife and I had wasn't quite as humorous.

Make her a deal - you buy her the unit & she buys the truck!

Also they are usually like $50 painting classes that you could take. I think if you take a couple classes you could do it yourself. Also the one near me gives you paint at cost once you have taken a class.

Local Community Colleges also often have a body shop/paint type class/program that works well for this too. Once I figure out how to squeeze 30-36 hours out of a single day & make some free time I'd love to take one!

Yeah Chase it sounds good to do the Ibuy-youbuy deal, but after buying our home last year we have every dollar coming in spoken for before it gets here. She is a nurse, I am an agent for Base Camp Leasing-a hunting lease company. What I need to find is someone with a truck for sale that is looking to kill a big buck or lots of ducks. I can do that without a hitch. Funny how it is easy to spend $2200. The HVAC guy is already done and gone.

understandable - and I was joking as I knew it wouldn't happen. It sucks when life gets in the way of toys, but unfortunately it happens a LOT!
