Exhaust questions on my 88 F150, help?

I just bought an 88 F150 with a 302/AOD in it. The guy rebuilt the heads and put them on slopily. I pulled them off to find the exhaust valve on #6 was broke and wedged in the guide. I get them back today and want to redo the exhaust since the maniflod is cracked also. I am thinking about putting on a set of my stock Mustang headers in place of the manifolds. I have sized them up and they seem to look like they'll work. The passenger side looks identical as far as fitment but the drivers side header exits farther back than the stock setup. It has room to play and I am sure it will work. What I want to do from there is go with a 2.5" Y-pipe into a single 3" pipe and into a 2 chamber Flowmaster. From there I want to go with dual 2.5 tails from the muffler. I like the even sound from the single muffler and it saves room. Here's the kicker, I want to mount the muffler in a vertical position so it will tuck up in the frame rails on the passenger side. Will it collect condensation and rust or can I drill a small relief hole at the lower spot to drain? I saw this setup in the Oct 2002 "Four Wheeler" on page 26 and like it. I have found an 88 F250 with a 460 that will replace the 302 but I don't have the time to do it before the winter. Will this exhaust hurt my little 302's low end bad? I will keep the 3" pipe and all the stuff behind but I'll rework the front for the 460 swap. Thanks
Dave

Well, I got the heads and everything back on. I put my stock stang headers on and they fit nicely. They are so much lighter than the iron manifolds. The passenger one will actually give me a little more room for starter removal. I will make an appointment to get the exhaust done on Monday. I'm not going to make any new holes. If it doesn't have one then I'll just leave it. I can't wait.
Thanks
Dave
