Cooling flush question

I've drained/filled my 6.0L Excursion with distilled water several times until the liquid ran clear (drain, fill, get it hot, repeat). Then I used Restore, got it hot, then drained and filled. Then added Restore+, got it hot, then drained/filled. When draining, I drain the radiator and the two engine block plugs (added fumoto valves to make block drains much easier).

I do have coolant filter and my EOT/ECT deltas are within 8+/- degrees, so not concerned about clogged oil cooler. I decided to flush the cooling system as a preventative measure and switch from the Ford Gold coolant to a CAT ELC coolant.

My question is: after using Restore and Restore+, how many times should I drain/fill until I add ELC coolant? Should I drain/fill until the liquid is clear again (about 6 times)? Thanks guys!

I am thinking with your two block fumotos you should be pretty good. If that water is really clear, I would drain and add ELC to appropriate percentage. A way to tell is put drained coolant in a really large glass jar and look through it compared to same jar with distiller water. If you are looking through 4 inches of the drained isolation you will see some discoloration if it isn't all out yet. It just depends on how much is left with each drain. I don't have fumotos on the block, it took me about 20 drain and fills with distilled water to get clear enough I could add my coolant and call her done.

After the Restore and Restore+ drain/fill, the liquid is yellow. That tells me there must still be some old Gold coolant floating around. Sounds like more drain/fills are in store for me. Thanks!

The block coolant plugs are the same thread size as the oil pan drain plug?

So you just ordered 2 Fumoto valves for an oil pan?

The oil pan takes the F-111/F-111N Fumoto valve.

The block drains take the F-108/F-108N valves.

I got the N type (with nipple) and attached a 5/8" (I think) water hose to each, then zip-tied hoses together and to one of the crossbars underneath. The two hoses meet in the center (coincidentally, near the oil drain plug) where I place my bucket. BTW, I copied another FTEr's idea here (bismic, I think).

Getting the passenger side valve installed was a pain given that you have to remove the starter, but I think the Fumoto is almost a must if you're going to do a flush. The block drains are really messy otherwise. With the Fumoto's, it's a cinch.

Yup, same valves I have for when I do my big flush! beats taking those plugs out every single time.
