Question 2009-10 difference

Hello all. This is my first post from this username. I used to be an avid forum used before serving 5 years in the Marine Corps and now I am back to some good ol shade tree mechanicing in my free time! I have come across a 2010 F250 with a blown V10 in it. I am looking to buy it, fix it and turn a quick buck. Im not completely sure what happened to the old V10 in it so Im not sure if I will be able to rebuilt that specific one. I am trying to figure up a general price for repair. I may be looking to buy a long block to swap in and am having a hard time finding a 2010 long block. I have found plenty for earlier years but am not completely sure how compatible they are. So here is the question and main reason for this post. What are the differences between the earlier years and the 2010 as far as long block goes? I have been searching and searching but just cannot come up with the answers Thank you in advance!

First, WELCOME to FTE! If you used to have an account here, I can help you get it back.

The first place to start with stuff like this is go to a Ford parts department, and start checking part numbers. Timing cover, oil pump pickup tube, even the block itself. If they are all the same part numbers, problem solved.

I don't personally know of any differences between 2005 and the newest 3-valve, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I would be careful to check intake/exhaust, PCV, vacuum hookups, evap controls, etc. But that wouldn't really effect the long block itself.

Let us know how it turns out, especially any gotchas along the way

the only difference im aware of on the -5+ 3V mods, is the early ones were prone to snapping plugs due to the 2 piece design..

later trucks got the 1 piece plug and that issue was sorted.

other then that, i dont think i've ever heard of anyone noticing differences between model years 05+...

Well comparing part number turns everything up to be pretty much the same. Thanks you all very much for your input. I was an 0311, Infantry Squad Leader.
