Crackling noise at highway speeds

I get a crackling (like foil or paper) noise coming from the tranny hump or firewall area in my 1994 diesel F250 at 50mph plus. Any ideas?

The OP is in the correct forum. The truck in the problem statement is a 1994 F250. That fits the criteria for this forum.

Perhaps a heat shield has come loose or is otherwise "tweaked" somehow?
