Frame Painting

Pic24 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I'm blasting my 4x4 frame and chassis and want to put on a coating that will hold up. Eastwood's Extreme Chassis black is being considered.

Any input on a better product or any comments on experience with EW Extreme Chassis would be appreciated!

Thanks

That is a ton of work. Have you considered stripping the rest of the way down and powder coating it?

Powder Coat Looks Nice

Raleigh1,

That would require total removal of the drive train. I was hopeing not to have to remove suspension and rear axle as I work completely alone on this.

What does it cost to have a frame stripped and powder coated?

Is it that much more durable?

Powder coating cost me $450 for the frame and brackets (spring buckets, shock mounts and rear shackles)
Basically they will sandblast everything, no rust left at all then spray on the powder which is a plastic resin.
It sticks to the metal because of a negative charge on the metal. Then it is baked to melt the resin. The result is a much more durable finish than paint and because it is sandblasted there is no rust under the coating.

I understand about the working alone, I have taken my truck down to the frame by myself, actually 2 Bronco's taken down to the frames to combine them.
It is a ton of work for sure, but worth it IMO.

Powder Coating Frame

Raleigh1.....I have only checked with one Powder Coating shop, but he wants $700 (un-primed) and $900 (with a primer applied first for better adhesion). I don't want to do it at that price. I will ask around. Maybe I can find a better price, else, I will stick with the painting plan. The shops up here think folks are rolling in money....

Holy crap man! I wouldn't do it for that price either, I would have gone with a couple of coats of POR15 before I paid $900 to get a powder coat job!
