Anyone running headers on 460cid F250 4x4 Auto trans?
My Hedman headers (P/N 89280) on my 82 F250 4X4 with C6, are rubbing on the right side (pass side) frame. The engine mounts look good. How tight is this clearence (header to frame) on your trucks (those of you that run headers)?
Note: Truck came with 351W and I swapped in the 460. I bought the engine perches and mounts for a 1990 F250 w/460 (since I had the 1990 parts manual).
Right side E3TZ-6028-C
Left side E8TZ-6029-B
I went with the Ford perches because they were cheaper than the L&L 460 swap kit/mounts.
So, why is my engine sitting so close to the right side frame? Is there another Header manufacturer that provides more cleareance?
Is the 1990 perches wrong for a 1982 frame (the bolts/rivet holes match)?
Is my frame bent/twisted somehow?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad (and disappointed) to hear that the problem is with the brand of headers and not my perches being incorrect (or worse).
Since the Hedmans are showing age, it might be time to go with a new set. Too bad the Flowtech's weren't a perfect fit.
Anyone have any other brand recommendations? Maybe the L&Ls?
Anyone have a picture of the header to frame clearence with whatever brand your running?

I started a thread way back when i was going through this header stuff... I don't remember if i had both pictured on there or not but you can stull see how bad the angle was with the Hedman's...
Even though the Flowtec's are not a top brand, I'm still very happy with them. They do hand a bit low though.

I'm also running 89340 in a '88 f250 with swap mounts with an auto trans.I couldn't find Ford mounts at a reasonable price(Hedman states that they will not work with swap mounts, nor with auto trans)and I had the L&L mounts from a trade I had done years ago.My guess is it might be due to the stock mounts.Mine were a pain to install(I did have to notch the frame a half inch to get them in with the engine installed) but once in they fit nice.I have about an inch on pass. side and an inch and a half where the frame is notched.Maybe loosen the motor mount to frame mount bolts and try sliding it to the drivers side a bit.

I definately need to do something. Taking these picturers made me realize the problem is worse than I thought (maybe the mount is bad now). I need to get some new mounts and figure out how much I can shift the motor to the left.
Does anyone know if the 460 isolators (rubber pads) for 1983-86 E4TZ6038C and the mounts for 1990-97 E7TZ6038F are different? Is one thicker than the other?

I'm going to replace the mounts first. I think if they are sagging it might explain why the headers are rubbing now. I looks like lifting the engine a 1/2 inch or so might give me the 1/4 inch clearance you're seeing. If the mounts are not sagging that much, maybe I need to slip a 1/4 or 3/8 spacer in there.
