Transmissions!! Difference between an 4R100 Gas and Diesel??

Hey guys, I need to replace my tranny on my 99 F350 with a 6.8L V10 4x4, I see alot of newer model f250 6.0 diesel transmissions, will they bolt on mine?? They seem to be more abundantly availiable and cheaper than my 4R100, suggestions??

From my reading talking to the trans shop the torque converter is different and some internals ( 4 vs 6 forward / reverse planet gears ) ( 3 vs 4 overdrive planet gears ) and the way the shift points are set up via the computer.

Mine is being rebuilt on 7/5 and I am upgrading to the 6 planet gears and the 4 planet gears for the overdrive total rebuild is going to cost apx 2500 w/ a new HD torque converter ( non billet ) and extra clutches, Torrington bearing upgrade, 45 roller sprag upgrade, 17 roller upgraded low and reverse, TransGo tugger HD2 kit w/ Transynd full synthetic fluid ( yes I know its made for allison not a ford trany and many might disagree and advise not to do it )

Here is a good upgrade kit a little different then what my shop is doing but will work all the same

4R100 Rebuild Kit Super Heavy Duty 1998 & Up 4 Wheel Drive Regular And Super Duty (Gas & Diesel) :: 4R100 ---- E4OD4R100.COM :: Ford Rebuild Kits :: Pro-Built Automatics

Everyone I talked to said stay with the Borg Warner clutches and Kolen steels that all the aftermarket clutches are no good but each to their own.

No. There's multiple problems I see, the main one is that anything from a 6.0 uses the 5r100 TorqShift transmission, your computer would never be able to run that tranny. Aside from that I would bet it wouldn't even physically bolt up.

You need to find a 4r100 out of a pre 2005 GAS truck. The ones in the 7.3 diesels won't even bolt up. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tion-help.html
