how to mount radio in 85/86

How did you guys physically mount your radio?

The dash kit sent to me by crutchfield appears that it will work only on 80-84 models, it doesnt let my "din" dash piece fit.

Currently, i plan on just putting the radio sleeve on the dash opening, but i'd really like to attach something on the back somehow as well.

suggestions?

I'd call up Crutchfield and ask to exchange it for a kit for later-model trucks.

I just did this in my 86. I had an adapter for the speaker harness but cut n plugged the power wires. The kit u got had what 3 plastic "plates" in it. In my pack it was the one not rubber banded together. Gotta cut out the **** parts and some of the mounting tabs till your left with a rectangle wit 2 long tabs top n bottom. The metal bracket that comes with a new head unit slides through this bending some locking tabs to hold it in place. Then its just slida in the deck till it clicks n its done. Fits stock opening decent.

For constant hot i tapped into the cig lighter just below. Keyed hot is yellow black with the big foam thingy. Drilled the metal plate under factory deck for a ground.

Lmk if i can tell you anymore.
