2.8L V6 valve stem oil seal replacement

Hey guys, I have a 1984 ranger with the 2.8L and I am doing the valve stem oil seals and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips from prior experience of doing these.

I have instructions from the ranger station. And I have access to mitchell1 and chilton online.

Also I read somewhere about better settings to use for valve lash, does anyone have any recommendations? The truck has about 80,000 miles on it.

We use compressed air to keep the valves closed when removing the springs, if you use that methid, watch the fan, cause it turns fast when you turn the air on.

Use the specs from the Chilton's book.
Adjustment is best done on a warm engine.

Almost done putting on the new seals. The old seals were very brittle and in about 3 pieces. Pretty easy. So far just tedious work especially on the passenger
side with all the wir.ing harnesses

Just wanted to give an ending to this thread.

I finished the job sunday afternoon and it fixed the problem! No more cloud of smoke when I first start the truck and no more burning oil! Very pleased.

My lifters still make some noise but not nearly as bad as before, I'll try flushing the oil and trying some lucas oil treatment, if that fails then I'll have to check my valve lash again.

Here are some links that I found helpful for anyone who stumbles across this thread in the future.
