around 8 years or so ago i bought 3 1998 ford F-350 pickups at auction.
2 diesel, and one with a 460.
they were made in canada, had metric speedometers and metric wheels.
they were old body style trucks, made in late 97, but titles as 98's

That's great, but I can't find any record of 1998 F350's. NADA, KBB and Edmonds say they don't exist. There's not an option to price a 1998 F350. I'm not saying You're wrong, I'm simply saying I can not validate you're statement.

you will never find a 69 mustang with a 351 cleveland, auto trans, and 4 wheel disc brakes. or a 65 falcon with the mustang 271 hp 4 barrel 289. or a galaxie with a 427 overhead cam engine listed either. but they made them.
just like there are no records of the 97 F-350 having the new metric wheels.
but i can show you 5 here in New Jersey with the 8 on 170 bolt pattern, and they were all bought new by the current owners, and picked up from the ford dealer with less than 50 miles on the speedometer.

i have also seen a few F-250 gas engine old body style trucks with 7 bolt wheels. they were listed as 98's at the auctions too.

just because it is not listed in the pricing guides does not mean it was not made.

Now you're comparing apples to oranges. You're citing specific vehicles with specific options as examples. We're talking a MY. I never said anything about a mustang, a Galaxie or a F250 not having 7 lugs.

If you click on "Models" on this very site, The 1997 & 1998 F-Series option is missing, Everything I can find says the F350 took a hiatus for the 1998 MY. That doesn't mean they didn't build them in 1998, but they are referred to as 1999 MY's.

Also called a buddy over at the local dealership, there's not 1998 F350 option in their computer.

correct.
there is no 98 listed. they are referred to as 99's

but the 98's i have bought and seen were not 99's, they were old body style trucks made in 97, with metric speedometers and metric wheels. but titled as 98's.

my point is, just because they are not listed in the computers does not mean they were not made.
that was also my point with the cars.
as an example, i went into the dealership and ask for bed bolts for a 96. the young guy at the parts counter tells me they are no longer available because they are not listed in the computer. end of story, rite??
then i ask one of the old timers, who walks away and comes back 5 minutes later with the 8 bed bolts.
he used a micro fisch reader to get the part number, then entered it into the computer and saw they had 16 in stock.

computers are not always rite, and are only as accurate as the data that is entered into them. just like wikipedia.
just because it in on the internet, that does not mean it is 100% true.

i figured it would be something like this, making the '97 until the end of '97 and then introducing the SD as a '99,,, makes sense now..

but what about the gap between jan 1 98 and march 98 when the SD build dates start....... was ford just selling leftover '97s for 3 months?

Remember they had to retool completely, would take several months easily. The 7.3L was the only engine that stayed int he lineup where they had to get everything setup for the modulars.

There was a f250 in late 97 and 98 not a superduty. It looked like a f150 but ford said it was heavy duty? It had the 7 lugs

As if this isnt all confusing enough...

There is the 1997 F150,
There is the 1997 F250 (looks identical, 7 lug axles, heavier duty parts, payload etc, but looks like an F150)

And then somewhere in the mix is the F150 7700, a hybrid of the F250LD, an F150. It is an F150 with 7700 GVWR.

Oh, and for kicks and giggles the NF-155, which was a special edition F150 made for one year (I think 2003) that was sponsored by No Fear, sorta like the Harley trucks. The 155 identifies 155 were produced. This all adds to the confusion

these are not what we are talking about. we are talking about old body style F-250 and F-350 trucks with a 1998 title.

We have all agreed on that part already. We are debating where the F350 was during this whole debacle and release of the new body style.

I spoke with my dad last night because I remembered he was on a LONG waiting list in 1997 or 1998 for a F350 Dually. He recalls trying to buy one around Christmas, (Must have been 1997?), and he wasn't able to get it until Spring/Summer? I remember when he brought it home. It definitely was the new body style. I was only in 9th grade or so. But man, that was a beautiful truck at the time.

Hey TJC,

This has really got me wondering. I truly want to find some form of documentation of a 1998 F350. I'd like to be able to correct the errors on sites like Wikipedia and WikiAnswers that say there wasn't a 1998 F350. I've searched and searched. Even looked on Canadian Used car value sites such as this one:

http://www.vmrcanada.com/value_menus/98fof.htm

If you come across anything, let me know.
