Is there many high mileage low issue 6.4s out there?

60K on mine and a few small issues. The biggest one was a rear main seal leak that was corrected in less than 1 day. Truck runs amazing and still makes me smile.

Hey! i have a 120,000miles on my 09 6.4L and its still stock.
just came off warranty and im looking at doing the egr/dpf delete and tune. my truck runs like a top still, transmission was rebuilt under warranty at 80,000 and couple of u-joints. other than that not a problem.
my buddy has a 6.0L and hes in the shop once a month. i think if my 6.4 ever blows up ill just throw another motor in it. i heard you can get brand new 6.4L motor for 6,000bux. 60-70K dollar truck and u can havea new motor for 6? im in. must say ill never drive anything but a diesel again.
Hope this helps you out, dont be intimidated by horror stories.

No issues up to a horizontal EGR cooler failure at ~123k miles. Full EGR Delete and no issues to 130k miles but now I'm getting intermittent P0088 code. I expect a fuel system repair in my future. I'll repair and keep rolling with this 6.4L.

My 08 has 67k on it, 1 exhaust temp sensor went out, just did the radiator and hoses. Other than that is has been a great truck.

152K - On third radiator, second fuel pump and have replaced the upper hose. This truck is a workhorse! Daily I pull a 4K cargo trailer with little or no effort from this engine. Expect (hope) to get at least 250K before moving on to the 6.7 (sold my 7.3 at 250K).

These trucks are awesome, but you'll definately spend more to get to 250,000 miles than you would on a 7.3 truck.

Your statement is purely opinion not fact........yes the 6.4 is not a "flawless" as the 7.3 but each motor is different.....

Plenty of high mileage, low issue 6.4s out there, however most are in well maintained fleet service so you won't find anyone posting about them on the forums.

Right out of the gate, the 6.4 uses more fuel. That is one major expense of owning the vehicle.

Programmers cost at least 1000$

Thats barely scratching the surface, start deleting EGR coolers and stuff, ad theres already a huge initial difference.

right out of the gate the 6.4 has almost twice the horsepower, four to five times the comfort but your right, it does use a little more fuel thanks to emissions. The 7.3 was overbuilt which was great for longevity but I only found about a 3 mpg difference between our old 7.3 and my stock 6.4. My best fuel mileage was my 6.0 liter but it was ticking time bomb.

Yes, well comparing someones experience if they purchased a brand new 7.3 and a brand new 6.4, there is a big difference in cost of ownership.

There are trouble free higher mileage 6.4's out there, but not as common as some other engine / truck combo's. That is my answer.

Well in the end I got a 2012 6.7. I went to the dealer to look at a 6.4 and it was sold by the time I got there. So while I was there I test drove a new one. She had me from hello. haha I'm loving it so far quiet, smooth, and powerful.

I currently have 63,000 miles on my 6.4 and the only issue I have had is the thermostat in the radiator. The radiator was replaced and all has been good. The dealership I go through says there is a local construction company that has several 6.4's and are pushing over 200,000 miles with no issues.

By no means high mileage yet, but at 39K, my '10 has had both blend doors go bad on 2 different occasions and a leaking steering box. That's about it.

The blend door ticking seems to be a common problem; fortunately they went bad just before my 3/36K expired. Had to get the dash pulled out to fix them both times.
