Married transfercase in a Highboy

Kind of a newbly question but I just picked up a married 4spd and 205 to swap in my 76 f250. i mainly want to ditch the intermediate for strength and so i dont have to buy 2 extra ujoints. I was just wondering if i can reuse my stock transmission crossmember and if it has to be moved at all? if anyone has any pictures of a married unit in a highboy that would be sweet. just looking for something to go off of. i have no problem fabbin up some mounts im just looking for something to go off of before i start. thanks

Jake

Anything is possible if you have the know how, time and money! Now for what it's worth... 2 U-joints are a lot cheaper than all the work to move the crossmember, buy 2 new drive shafts, and to **** around with the shifter linkage where it comes up through the floor let alone messing around with the exhaust system.

....and also now your front driveline angle will suck, too. That seems like a lot of work for no gain. I would instead spend my time and money converting the steering to a cross over set up which is the highboy's short-coming.

...but to answer your question, NOTHING will fit. Everything is wildly different. I would try to score the newer crossmember as well.

supposedly the factory switching to high pinion front axles was one reason to switch to the married t case, or maybe the other way around.

I guess I should have added more info. I have a hp 60 with crossover steering. And I want to add 1350 ujoints for the front and 1410 for the rear so new drivelines are in the work as it is.

what body configuration is the truck? I would assume standard cab, long bed as that is what most are, but keep in mind your rear drive shaft could get awfully long - especially if yours is a crew cab like mine.

I dunno, if you already got the stuff and youre already making axles I really don't think it could be that bad. The crossmember, if I remember right (been a while since I saw the highboy style) isn't that different from the married kind, just a good bit further back. I'm thinking you could grind out the rivets, move it forward and drill out the holes and reinstal it using grade bolts and be done. If not, just get the x member off a married truck, they are plenty common, and I think the frames are the same width under the cab, someone will probably correct me if I'm wrong. I measured a chassis cab and it was the same under the cab as my reg cab long bed, and I think they are the same width in the rear as the high boy.

My biggest problem with a C-6/205 swap was creating enough clearance for the front driveshaft (new trans CM and remove the one in front of the trans CM)

You'll want to find the frame brackets for the 205.

I have the new transmission mount, just not the cross member, and I have the transfer case mounts. I might move my stock cross member back and use the new mount and just re drill holes. I picked up the 435/205 combo for 100 bucks, which kinda motivated me to do the swap. I was kinda hoping someone had done it and post some pics that I could use as a reference in case I get stuck, but if not I can figure it out. The worse I have to do is re do it lol.

if you have the mounts it would probably be easier and stronger and faster just to weld up one out of angle iron or tube, if you have a welder.

Yea I have a welder. I wish I had a tubing bender, but beggars can't be choosers. When I get some time I'll get started and post some pics up.

I wish I had a tubing bender too but I don't have a garage to work out of right now, I have been living with my girlfriend in her duplex for the past year. If you carefully cut your angles you can weld stuff together just as strong as if you had a bender, and a lot of times even stronger.
