2012 F250 6.2L strange startup noise
Hi all,
Have just about 500 miles on my new 2012 F250 6.2L. But I am hearing strange noises during startup. To me...it sounds like an exhaust leak??? I'm standing on the left (driver side)...and hit the remote start...and can hear it.
I thought I had read that these new engines are a touch noisy...so Just wondering if it is normal 6.2L sound? Or something I should ask dealer to inspect?
Thanks!

Normal drivetrain tick until the engine oil comes up and lubricates the top end properly. Put 5000 miles on it or so, and switch to a good syn. You will reduce that by better than half.
I recommend also doing your first oil change at 1000 or so, then at maybe 3000 or so. Pay attention to the drain plug. It has a magnet!!

This morning go to start-up...and guess what...NO noise.
I'll just keep an eye...I mean ear on it...and see how it goes.
Thanks for the response...
OBTW: SD is at dealer today getting the FORD Security System. So...while it is in anyway...I mentioned the noise. Of course...I couldn't reproduce it...but...

Video?
My fuel injectors are noisy as heck, but they're loud all the time. Do you have a mechanics stethoscope to pinpoint where it's coming from? I got one cheap at Harbor Freight, great tool to have.
Is it anything like the video in the other thread that blueline recently posted?

NO...it does not sound like a knock like blueline video. Wow...that is a noise I never want to hear from my 6.2L. eeek!
The noise is easy to hear when the truck has run...and then parked. First thing in the morning or first start of the day...no noise.

I just can't figure out why the truck doesn't do it at every startup after it has sat for an hour or two. I'm convinced the noise is part or all of the valvetrain not getting lubrication for a second or two when it does it...yet it had not done it to me for a week until yesterday, mid-morning, I had to run an errand. It sat for about 1 hour...rattled / rapped as bad as I have heard it. Since then, probably 6 startups later, no noise.
