If you replace the axle, replace the backing plate too. Ask me how I know that! hahahahaha

The brake shoes won't allow the drum back on, because it got bent too.

Then you have to pull the axle back out... again.

Been there, Done that, Unfortunately , more than once, because I'm old and a slow learner

You have a full floating axle, the axle shaft does NOT carry the tire, and it is highly unlikley that you have one that is bent. If you are absolutely sure that the wheel is seated properly, what is more likely is you have bad wheel bearings back there.

I aint exactly sure about the smaller axles, but I work mostly on bigger rigs running the full floating axle. I have seen axles snapped in half, but never seen a full floating axle cause the wheel to vibrate, or wobble.

I am more prone to go with bearings. Easy way to find out is to put the tire back on and wiggle the tire so to say while its off the ground. You may have to put a lot of umph into it, but Its a place to start.

I learned the hard way that when you check the bearings on a full floater you really should unbolt the axle shaft and slide it out a bit so it isn't trying to hold the hub steady.
