This is going to sound like a strange question, but here goes. So the last couple days have been the first hot days where I live, so I have turned the temperature in the cab down. Anyway, I notice that I don't have to put the switch for the climate controls to A/C, I can just leave it on the top vents and footwell vents setting, and set the temperature gauge to cold, and it blows cold air. Is the AC compressor running, or is it just magically getting cold air from somewhere? In fact, I can't remember the last time I had to switch it to the AC setting. I can't hear the compressor if it is running, but it is a loud truck....
Or just get an answer instead of a smart *** remark.
The system is designed so that the A/C pump runs in every position except OFF, face only and floor only. The pump runs in both A/C settings, of course, the foot/floor settings and both defrost settings.
I have a 01 f250 and I believe there is only one position on the vent settings that the compressor is not engaged all the other run the compressor. Would have to look at manual to be sure which setting it is. This kind of surprised me at first when I bought mine.

It's all explained in detail in the owner's manual.

You are right about being in the owners manual, but some people that buy a used truck don't have the owners manual in the truck for some reason or another.
Besides, what would I do on here if nobody asked a question????????
Actually, at least in my Owner's Manual, there is no information whatsoever about what control positions cycle the A/C compressor. But that's neither here nor there.
