replaced injector, same cylinder failing

replaced injector in cylinder #5, fails contrabution and the truck is blowning white smoke. the smoke smells like fuel. also it has an egr delete kit. not much of a loss in power at idea or when i take off. not sure where to start looking for an issue

The mention of an EGR delete kit would lead me to the assumption that you have a 6.0L Power Stroke engine.

Have you done any troubleshooting of the issue, or just thrown parts at it hoping to solve the issue? I am not a diesel expert, but my guess would be you are looking at a head gasket failure.

correct, it is a 6.0, we did the egr kit last weekend, and it drove fine for a week, then it said cylinder 5 injecteror was failing, we replaced it and now theres alot of white smoke and it reaks of fuel

Sounds like there not enough compression to burn the fuel.

Maybe a valve got chipped or bent, or maybe the rings are burned or warped.

tore apart engine, got down in there with a bore scope. front valve is oily, as are most of the others through out the truc, but the rear valve on that cylinder looks cleaner. we rotated the motor and the both valves seem to open and shut jut fine. at a loss here

did you check compression?
It is possible the valves could open and close but still be chipped or warped enough to make trouble.
Can you get that borescope into an injector hole to look at the piston?
I'd start with getting the compression checked.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm thinking if you say the valves are operating, and theres no compression, shes gotta come apart no matter what.

Compression check time, i say.

Stupid question, but did you get the original copper washer out before reinstalling the new injector with a new washer and o-rings? Stacking up two washers or not torquing the injector in can cause premature failure of the washer and o-rings, leaking fuel into the cylinder. Just a WAG.

If #5 missing, or just failed a contribution test?

This might not be a # 5 cylinder issue if it's firing.
