Just about any stereo that's 1 Din (that's a car stereo measure) will fit and work in your truck. Don't be too skimpy, you can get a pretty decent unit for less than $100. Features you should look at: USB and I-pod conectivity, MP3 compatibility, CD reader (you could look at DVD units, but those cost more) and a remote control. Any known brand will have a nice unit that sounds fine.

what brand is the aftermarket you have? if you can find one that is the same brand but newer and nicer you can avoid having to re wire the block connector. Kenwood and JVC are the same company and use the same block. I replaced a 15 year old kenwood with a new JVC and lucked out, the wiring block just plugged right in. Also if you are going to replace the door speakers buy new panel clips, once you take them out even 1 time they just don't hold the door panels the same and you'll get some squeaks over rough patches of road.
here is what I used and I am delighted with the sound:
head unit: JVC KD-R730BT
Rear speakers: Boston Acoustics SE 85
Door speakers: Infinity reference 6032cf.
An important feature to look for: REAR USB CABLE. The head unit I bought has a 4' rear usb cable. I ran it out the back of the dash, cut a 1' slit in the carpet under the cup holder and fished the usb cable through it. Now I just leave my I pod under the cup holder out of site. In essence I have a 10,000 song library permanently attached to the stereo, works perfectly. The usb also charges the Ipod whenever it is played so I never have to take it out and charge it and I don't need all the wires or a phone/device holder attacked to the dash somewhere, nice and clean.

Floor heat? I appreciate the concern, but my truck and tranny doesn't heat up like that. I have never even used the AC except to test it a few times a year. Maybe my cooling system is just working well, but I have never experienced heat coming form the floor. Since I put on the F250 bumper with the pass throughs and bottom air dam removed it has actually been running slightly cool. You have peaked my curiosity though, I will stick my hand down the next time I am running warm and see if I get heat rising from the tranny. I doubt that it will be enough to melt wire or fry my Ipod since it is on top of the carpet, but it is something to check. Thanks!
