6 inch Skyjacker Lift Questions

I just ordered a 6 inch Skyjacker lift for my 78 f-250 and was wondering what guys thought of them. Also how much did you have to extend the drive shafts? Any input on the subject would be much appreciated.

I ordered one from them for my 77 F150 and can't complain. I doubled the spring rate's when I ordered it tho but after 15 year's of having the crap beat out of it it's maybe lost 3/4 to a inch of height

I got the dropped pitman arm, the radius arm drop bracket's, adjustable drag link. I wanted all spring and no blocks and I doubled teh spring rate's so when They sent me my lift I got 8 inch front coil's and 6 inch rear leaf spring's so I used my factory block & a 2 degree shim, I also swapped out to the 78/79 tie rod's. as far as drive shaft's go ???? IDK I have a SWB and think the first set I swapped the rear to the front & had a new rear made

I ordered new leafs all around, drop pitman arm, adjustable drag link, and brake lines. Not a big fan using blocks for a lift and the old leafs are tired anyways. Lift should be here today so hopefully there is something in the instructions about drive shaft length.

6" you should be good for shaft length. If you do a lot of stuff with the axles articulated or if you baja jump it, you might drop it out of the splines... so basically if you rock crawl, where you would drop the rear end down on one side and give it a ton of gas when the driveshaft is just barely engaged on the splines, you might break stuff. Its one of those things I wouldn't mess with till it gives you problems, but then again, if you twist the splines off the splined section it will be more expensive to repair than just to take it in and have it retubed now.

skyjackers

I did the same.although a 4inch lift on a 75 HB,just the peace of mind of fresh springs on my almost 40 year old vehicle.I didnot go with their shocks,I put the bilstien in the rear,in the process of power steering install/cross over and then the bilstein up front.I got my cross over from North West fabricators, you will be happy with the Lousiana company Sky Jackers Springs Heavy Duty!good Luck and be carefull

front springs

I also got rid of the light guage cross member that holds the front spring shackle in place, I went with a 3inch by 5 inch tube steel nothched out as original cross member to receive front shackle ,being connected with grade 8 bolts.Giving you a solid cross member to weld on some lifting eyes to install lifting shackles.just in case you want to hook it up to a crane and fly it in a diffrent location.Heavy Duty

Thanks for all the input guys, it's a big help! The truck will be used for some mud boggin', playing in the snow, and for work the odd time. There is no rock crawling to be done in my neck of the woods so I should be alright with the stock drive shaft length. Everything for my lift showed today except the front springs and component box. That stuff is supposed to show up tommorow. I'm pretty excited to get at it I've never put a lift on a truck. Hopefully all goes well.

Skyjacker 6" all four leaf springs, Skyjacker kit that replaces all springs still retains factory rear blocks. Skyjacker gas shocks a bit stiff. Braided S/S brake lines 8" over stock custom made local. Front driveshaft lengthened 2 &1/2" new spline end, cardin rebuilt. Rear DS stock. Steering, 4" drop pitman, Skyjacker drag link, steering arm block, Skyjacker dual steering stabilizer, HP D44 rebuilt, ball joints, wheel bearings, spindle bearings, Chrome Molly stub axles, Warn preimum locking hubs seals, etc. Super Swamper IROK Radials 39.5 x 13.5 x LT16 on M/T Classic II's I drive this truck every day with an Endless Smile. hp d60 kingpin front axle ready soon for install. The end result is a truck that runs smooth 0-80+

He asked what we thought my grin explains that. He asked about the driveshafts, my post contains my results. He also said "Any input on the subject would be much appreciated" So I thought i would explain what I did to end up with a truck that rides and handles as well as mine, all to often lift kits are installed, ball joints or king pins, wheel bearings, lack of steering stabilizers add or magnify problem like front end wobble , bump steer! The OP said this was his first lift kit Install so I put alot out there while telling of my experience. Sorry if you didn't find it usefull, did YOU read the OP's post?

Are there any laws on bumper height, mud flaps & fender flares to cover the tires in flordia ? You wouldn't get away with driving that on the roads in Pa for long.
