Need transmission help!

My name is Rob and im new here. I got a 78 f100 flareside I recently paid 300 bucks for. My truck has a 300 inline 6 and a c6 transmission. The c6 transmission **** the bed so I changed it out for another c6 and that one also **** the bed... So im gonna switch to a manual trans and I dont know what trans would be a good fit. A buddy of mine reccomended a T10 4 spd? Im gonna be pulling a 16ft car trailer on the weekends so the trans has to be strong!! I just recently got into playing with ford trucks, all I know is chevys and I have changed my ways. I can post pics of my truck if ya guys need em to help me select the right transmission for my project.
Please help a 20 year old out!!

Back when that truck was made Ford put either a NP435, a T-18, or a T-19 as a manual transmission option. But, if you're up for additional extra work you can swap in a ZF5 from later 1980's to 1997 F-Series trucks with the "small block" ford transmission bolt pattern.

I haven't done any of that work (yet). I'm just telling you what I learned here on FTE. You need to ask someone else who would know about this swap. Sorry that I can't be of much more help to you.

I do know of a guy who did the C6 to NP435. I forget his name though will go see if I can find him. But i'm betting that you will have to redo your drive shafts.

Here you go. I would try to do the zf swap if you can because it is a really nice trans.
