Numbers Dummy, or someone else that knows Ford tranny numbers, please help!

So my motor is finally getting rebuilt and the transmission is finally out of my '64 F100 Custom Cab. I am pretty sure that my transmission is not stock, it's go a Hurst floor shifter in the hump.
I know it's a 3 speed top loader, 9 bolt cover. The casting numbers on he left of the case are "C3AR 7006-E", the plate on the right side is SUPER WORN, but I THINK I can make out "HEF 038955". The numbers on the tail housing are C3TR-7A040 - C or G.
Can anyone help me indentify it?

I know it's a 3 speed top loader, 9 bolt cover..

The plate on the right side is SUPER WORN, but I THINK I can make out HEF

Left side of case marked: 4E15
HEF is the trans ID number prefixes for 1963/65 F100/250's with the Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh transmission.

1964: HEF-AD = F100/250 128" w/base 223 I-6 / HEF-AD = F100/250 128" w/base 292 / HEF-AV & AT = F100/250 114" & 120" w/bases 223 I-6 / HEF-AW & AU = F100/250 114" & 120" w/bases 292.

The ID prefixes changed in 1966, as did the Warranty Plate trans codes, but...

This trans was introduced in 1963, used thru 1986 in F100/250's, 1965/86 Econolines, 1966/77 Bronco's and a gazillion 1963/80 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars.

4E15 = Assembled May (E) 15, 1964 (4). It's most likely the original trans if your truck was assembled after May 15th.

The last 6 digits of the VIN decode to the month/year your truck was assembled / A is the trans code stamped on the Warranty Plate (1963/65).

So I guess it is the factory transmission. I really thought that is had been swapped.

Thank you for the help, as always this forum has saved the day.

Anyone feel like finishing translating the door tag for me? I know some of it, but apparently not all.

Thanks! I had more more incorrect info, I was told that the L in the VIN meant it was built in Long Beach. Go figure.

Happy birthday to my truck! 48 years old cool. Pretty interesting to note that this truck is getting a full motor rebuild and 4 barrel conversion along with IFS this moth. Heck of a Bday present!

L was the Long Beach assembly plant code, but Ford had moved out of this plant years before 1964.

Located on Henry Ford Avenue on Terminal Island, erected to build Model T's, plant was built on pilings over the ocean. By 1957, the plant was too small, the pilings were not only rotten, but were sinking into the ocean.

Ford moved production to San Jose to a new plant erected in 1955, that replaced the original plant in Richmond (CA) that also was built on pilings, was also too small.

Irony: San Jose plant long gone, torn down in the early 1980's, replaced by a shopping mall. Both the former Richmond and Long Beach plants are there today, rented out for mixed usage.

btw: A truck ordered from Atlanta could also have been assembled in Norfolk VA, Mahwah NJ, Louisville KY, but not in CA.

That is great info. I actually grew up in Seal Beach (basically a suburb of Long Beach) and really close to Terminal Island and I never knew there was a Ford plant there before. It is also cool to know that my truck, now located in Atlanta, was originally from here and that this month is it's birthday.

Thanks again for the great info you have given me, and continue to give to the members of this forum. I have been members of different forums off and on for almost 15 years, all the way back to the PureHonda forum back in the day and you are one of the most informative members that I have eveer come accross.

Now if you could just find me a cheap windshield in the Atlanta area.

Gotta work now, bye bye

1964 crush vinyl is the same as 1965/66, but 1964's woven plastic is 1964 only.

This is either a 1965 or 1966 F100/250 Custom Cab, the dead give-away is the sweep speedo instrument cluster, not available in 1964.

I'm a Santa Monica native, now live 40 miles east a the beach, so I know where Seal Beach and etc are.

You want a cheap windshield? The same puppy will be found in 1961/66 F100/1100's, 1963/69 N/NT/T500/1000's and 1967/69 F800/1000's.

There must be one a these trucks located in a wrecking yard near by, cuz FoMoCo made millions of them.

Cut the w/strip with an xacto knife on the inside of the cab, then remove the w/shield. It'll crack if you try and remove the w/shield with the w/strip.

The last time I was in jaw-jah, I drove mostly back roads, Atlanta to Americus (Andersonville) and back, hittin' all the antique and old hardware stores along the way.

Stopped at a small town hardware store (can't recall the name of the town, starts with a B) south of Atlanta that had all sorts of new kerosene lamps, some dated back to the 1880's.

This business was once a Studebaker Wagon dealer, still had parts in the basement. I informed FTE member Phil105, a scrounger like myself, but when he finally got around to going there, store was out of business.

A wee bit off topic...but Ford related...its interesting the history of the FoMoCo west coast assy plant over the years as Bill mentioned...3 places in Ca...and the newest of the 3 is now...ughhh..a shopping mall...but Ive heard theres a plaque there making note of the historical aspect of the site.
As to birthdays...my Country Squire is now officially legal...it can but a beer if it wants...LOL...6-14...and my 65's is coming up too...I think its the first week of July based on the trans tag(7-1-65)...Im tempted to pop the cluster and see what dates ink stamped on the backside...

How did you find the exact date of manufacture? I would be intersted in knowing that for my F100.
