What works best for rust on the frame??

I want to treat the rust on my frame and underbelly of the pan. What works best? POR 15 or Silver Bullet treatment?

I use fluid film and por15 on all my vehicles and the por15 will stop rust. I have been leaning twards fluid film more because once por15 chips the moisture gets under it and you can't see it untill Its too late!

Never heard of fluid film. Who makes it and is it good? Been around for awhile?

You are in Florida, no wonder you have never heard of fluid film!

Blackstar hands down. I put it on everything under my truck. It only adheres to rust so you can be pretty liberal applying it. Simple to work with.

I want to treat the whole frame and be proactive against rust. Only want to do it once and do it right!

Thumbs up Using Fluid Film or the nearest equivalent.

The mechanic that worked on our Excursion right before we bought it recommended Fluid Film. When I went looking for it at my local NAPA they had an "equivalent" product for a bit less cost. I'm using it on our 2000 Excursion and my 1990 Suburban.

I'll let you know how well it works.

As for treating your truck once and being done forever... Perhaps you could dip the entire frame in epoxy.

Thought about powder coating it. That is an option.

The city of New York uses Blackstar on their salt trucks. Neutralizes rust and forms a polymer once it dries. It also has a matte black finish when it dries which is great for everything under your truck. I put it on axles, front and rear end, oil pan, fuel tank, and drive shaft. Good stuff IMO

Fluid Film is basically a liquid wax/oil mixture. Works great for things like inside body panels but I dont know how it would hold up on a exposed frame. The Blackstar looks interesting and easier to apply than Por15. Not much info on it though.

I called the rep for Blackstar before I ordered and he gave me a bunch of info. I told him I wanted to use it on the frame and the under carriage of truck. It is a water based product and can be sprayed or brushed on anything under your car. I used a brush but a decent sprayer would work as well. I liked the brush because I could put it exactly where I wanted it. The finished product is amazing, but I will admit when I opened it and poured it in a paint pot I wondered if it would really work. Its a creamy white liquid, but once it dries on anything that has rust it turns into a matte black polymer. You can also paint anything you use it on because its also an excellent primer if you don't like the black finish. It will simply wash off of anything that is dries on that does not have rust.

How durable is it, does it hold up to abuse like gravel and such?

I put two coats on and it appears to be a permanent part of the truck now. No signs of wearing off at all. If you ever use it just get a gallon. I bought 2 gallons and still have plenty left over.

If it simply washes off, can it act as a barrier or ,as I assume, it's temporary?
I know a guy that said he would bring his Rhino Lining machine to my house and do it to the body and frame. I would just have to have the body almost at a 90 angle in its side. VERY SCARY!!!

I'm still looking for alternatives to protect. I found Luzard Skin as an insulator. Not too expensive.
