Hello let me introduce myself !
Hi everyone, I have just popped over from Y-Blocks.com in the hope of gettting some good info on "pick'emuptrucks" .
I live in Australia and would like to find a good third [or second] gen truck but I dont really know that much about them. I am versed in Y- blocks and I am a member of the 49-59 Ford V8 club in Perth. I own a 56 fairlane [and 74 Cuda] .
I am heading over to California in July so if anyone knows of anything please let me know.
Is there anything in particular to look out for on the trucks? like on the sedans the front radiator crossmember rusts out etc. Is there a particular year that is better..because..?
I have to find something that is fairly original, must have the Yblock, original running gear no holes cut for aftermarket shifters etc etc as I want to put it on a club lic and we cant bring in modified cars anyway. A little bit of lowering is ok so long as its not overboard, which leads me to the next question are these truck hard to lower a few inches??
One that looks like a bit of a ratrod would do me fine, so long as its solid.
Look forward to a bit of feed back.. 'cos I dont want to have to buy a C10 Chebby !!
Cheers, Rob

You can look in the classified on this site. I did a quick look and here is one that fits what you are looking for. The link takes you to eBay. It is in Idaho, not too far from California. The truck is not mine. Ford : F-100 Custom Ford : F-100 Custom | eBay
57-60 rust - areas to inspect: Rear Cab Corners, Cab Mounts, door hinge areas, radiator support, tail light area, lower front fenders. If bought in California (or any where out West), should be pretty good shape rust wise.
Good luck

Have you given some thought to going up instead of down? Some great looking 4x4s out there. If you can't go under them - just go over them.
I am not very familiar with lowering the stock suspension. When I was researching my 2WD I kept reading Australian forums about putting series 3 XJ6 IFS in them. That won't work with what you are trying to do to keep things right for the club.

I did for a brief moment think of a 4x4 but really not my thing. I already drive a 4x4 daily driver.
I take it as far as the supension goes they have leaf springs and solid axles front and rear.. nothing changes in the 3rd gen years?
Anyone have a link for shops that sell the parts for mods or standard gear..?
