Quick Vacuum Line question

Well I just swapped all my ignition components. Noticed this line not connected to anything. It atatched to the tan vacuum line on the passenger side of the engine. Where does it go?

Diagram:

Truck runs great.

The tan line on that diagram is going from the thermactor air diverter solenoid to the ACV (air control valve) which diverts air from the manifold/heads to the cats.

In your pic, what is that black piece you are holding? A patch repair from a previous owner? Is it somehow going to the tan line next to it?

Its a black hose that goes to the tan vacuum line in the picture. The end I'm holding isn't connected. Where does the tan vacuum line go into the ACV at? Where is the ACV located?

On my '97 5.8 it is on the driver's side valve cover but you have a somewhat different setup. I only have one valve and you have two. There are air lines going to your cat, right?

Anyway the TAD solenoid is also on the driver side valve cover. Make sure all vacuum lines are intact.

All the vacuum lines look good. This seems to be the only connection that is not made. My setup looks like this:

From Steve83's album

Should that hose be connected to the bottom of that valve like shown? There is a nipple on the bottom of it.

Yeah, that vacuum line is what controls the valve.

Make sure you are connecting them right, according to the diagram you posted you should have a purple line going there.

Ok I now know that it indeed goes to the nipple on the bottom of that valve. Went out and took a look around. Turns out that when the Ford Dealership rebuilt the engine 8 years ago they changed the vacuum lines. The tan one is supposed to be purple. That's where I was getting confused. The rest are the correct color.

Now that I think about it, I dont think it has been hooked up. I have a code 311(Thermactor Air Inoperative) that has never gone away... Maybe this is the issue...
