Thats a really cool idea with the transmission output shafts driving the front and rear.
I have looked into using 7.5 or 8.8 IRS rear ends out of tbird/cougars
and shortening up the axles for the proper width.
You could also use hydraulic motors on each wheel and let the motor power a big hydraulic pump for even more ground clearance.

Oh yeah, and if you have an unlimited budget you can put cv joints on the ends of these.. Speedway Engineering's Mini Stock Quick Change Rear Ends
and change gears to go highway speeds or pull houses down.

I had considered hydraulic motors and a pump, and found some that run a 700 rom max, which should have worked... but I imagine power would be less, and the thing would burn a ton of fuel at any speed.

The 5 sp car tranny and 60 h roller chain going in I bet is 85% effecient.
Hydraulics i bet are 40-50%.
