truck cuts off

my 87 f-150auto. 4wheel drive , when i start it up sometimes it races up fast but then dies back to normal. then again it will just cut off. it will start right back up and run good until i stop again. then it wants to cut off 2 or 3 times before it runs right. after that it runs good, all replies are grateful, thanks

Well first and foremost the book says pull codes...

I had a problem with my truck where it would stumble and stall (RPM would fluctuate high and low and want to stall but try to catch itself) on startup but once it got running and warmed up a bit it ran fine and then no issues. Didnt have any codes either. Turned out to be the MAP sensor on the passenger side right up by the firewall. It was an 87 F-150.

Just an idea.

Not real expensive. I think I may have paid in the 20's range for it? Was a while back.

In the engine compartment. Right along side where the blower motor is at. I believe it has one electrical connector and one vacuum line running to it.
