Where to get parts for 1987 F8000 dump truck

Hi All, hoping I can get some pointers on where to find parts - googled extensively and searched these forums but no luck - our local water company has a 1987 F8000 dump truck and it needs:

A new key lock cylinder in the steering column - just looking at it - it appears to be similar to the one in my 1987 F250HD - anyone know if it uses the same one?

A new ignition switch - it's getting pretty intermittent

Thx! - KR

Both can be purchased from autoparts stores, more than likely from FoMoCo as well, but in order to give you what the many applications could be, I need the VIN number, as I want to verify it is 1987 and an F8000.

Some people confuse F Series trucks with C Series trucks and/or with L/LN Series trucks. C & L/LN series use these same parts (as do myriad Passenger Cars).

F series is different, and 1980 thru 1989, there are four different switches. 1980 / 1981/84 / 1985/86 / 1987/89.

Thanks for that info - I'll get the VIN and post later this evening.

FYI - it has the F-8000 emblem on the sides and the mfg sticker inside the driver door has a 1987 mfg date but the model year could be plus or minus a year from that.

I'll take a pic of the mfg sticker so I'll have good details on the truck.

I've checked with the local shops - Autozone, NAPA, O'Reilly, & Carquest - none of them have the F8000 in their list of Ford truck models so can't look up parts for it.

Thx again & will post again this eve...

K87 = F8000 (diesel) / H = 1987.

D7AZ-11572-A .. Ignition Switch (Motorcraft SW-1379) / Same: 1977/78 LTD/Mercury Grand Marquis.

E6HZ-11582-A .. Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder w/2 keys (Motorcraft SW-2000) / Not the same as LTD/Grand Marquis.

Give the autoparts store partscluck the Motorcraft part numbers, can be crossed over to the brands they sell.

Since the switch is the same as these cars, you can use the lock cylinder they came with (and etc! see below). Easier to find than the truck type, especially if the parts store has to order it.

D8FZ-11582-A (replaced D6AZ-11582-A) .. Ignition Lock Cylinder w/2 keys (Motorcraft SW-1523).

Applications: 1976/78 LTD/Mercury Grand Marquis and 1976/79: Mustang/Granada/Monarch/Pinto/Bobcat/Cougar/Thunderchicken/Ranchero.

Note: The switch is 1977/78 (car) only, the lock cylinder is an updated part number, so fits more vehicles.

Wow, that's great, thank you for this info! helps greatly!

I'll get the parts and post again next week with how the repair went.

Would the lock cylinder come out like the 87-91 light duty trucks? - turn to run and press the pin to pull the lock cylinder out? & does the horn center cap just pry out & would i remove the steering wheel also like the 87-91 light duty trucks to get to the lock cylinder pin? - KR

OK NumberDummy - you were right on with the parts info!

D7AZ-11572-A / Ignition Switch / Motorcraft SW-1379 was a perfect match and fixed the ignition switch issue.

Original lock cylinder:
E6HZ-11582-A / Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder w/2 keys Motorcraft SW-2000 / (Not the same as LTD/Grand Marquis)
As you advised - and I confirmed - that SW-2000 is hard to get - & as you advised I instead used:
D8FZ-11582-A (replaced D6AZ-11582-A) / Ignition Lock Cylinder w/2 keys / Motorcraft SW-1523 - which was also a perfect match ~ except it had a buzzer switch mounted that is easy to remove (but not necessary to remove) ~ and fixed the disintegrating lock cylinder issue.

OK - & hope this helps some folks - from what I can tell the only difference between the hard to find SW-2000 big truck key lock cylinder (with no key-in-lock tiny buzzer switch) and the SW-1523 passenger vehicle lock cylinder - is that the SW-1523 has an easily removable (the Carquest part had instructions on how to remove if unneeded) tiny buzzer switch for key-in-lock and door open buzzer - which is mounted on the side of the lock cylinder (wish I had taken pics). Since the F8000 has no wiring for - or the actual door open buzzer - I didn't bother removing the switch and it installed and worked just like the original.

Thank you NumberDummy - you made this repair an easy affair and I'm grateful for folks like you helping out on these forums! I'd buy you a beer if you were near Northern AZ!

FYI to anyone seeking these parts - I went to Carquest (great parts shop in my neck of the woods) and the lock cylinder SW-1523 crossed to Carquest 53-2372 & the ignition switch (funny part name for a diesel rig) SW-1379 crossed to Carquest 53-27570.

Also FYI for anyone this helps - even though this rig is a 1987 model year F8000 - the steering column and instrument cluster are like the 1980-1986 style Ford F150-F350 - not like a 1987-1991 F150-F350.

I know this post is old but we had similar issues with our 88 f8000.. since then it has been a wiring night mare... Every time we fix one thing another goes bad and its slowly trickling down the line. Currently were dealing with the main power block (not sure of the official name) that is mounted on the fire wall directly under the windshield... any one know of a good spot to find a wiring diagram to help... we had a fusable link go bad and after the repair our windshield wipers don't work and neither does the heater blower for the defrost... we need to get the truck inspected and obviously cant in VA without these things working properly..

also the main power block stated above cracked in half with the last winter storm and needs replaced so any thoughts on where to get that would be great as well

new user here so nice to meet everyone and any help is greatly appreciated.

NumberDummy, you are impressive! I too have a Ford 8000. VIN 1FDYK82E4SZA37543. The title calls it a 1995, but the date on the door is 1994. I am looking for some parts (timing cover gasket). Where would you recommend I look?

NAPA should be able to get the parts, but there are...at least...two other sources:

JOB LOT (joblotauto.com ~ 718-468-8585) in Queens NY specializes in BIG Ford truck parts.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH (800-543-4959) has the largest stock of obsolete parts on the planet.

Since new vehicles are introduced in September of the previous year, production begins in August. So a production date from 8/94 thru 12/94 will be a 1995.

Scroll down to see that the 10th digit of the VIN is the year.
