Mornin' ya'll,
I havent spent alot of time in this neck of the woods as i only been usin my Heritage as a drive and work truck. I am coming it to 2 more a 99 and a 01, my questioin:
Will a 4.6L marry up straight in place of a 5.4L, if not what needs to be changed updated modded, carried over and so forth. I don't plan on this being terribly easy just lookin to get the info. If there is already a thread please feel free to direct me there, and I apologize. Ya'll take care and thank you ahead of time,

Hey Boomer, how but talking a little 'Wissconseny" instead of all 'Texiny' so we all can understand what you want?
What year trucks and motors are you inquiring about, first?
Reason I ask is there are different igniton systems and two different motor versions. The Windsor and Romeo.
You might have to be involved with engine bay harnness, computer version, ignition and maybe even a PATS system..
It gets complex enough without knowing the hardware you want to use , on top of it all.
There was a lot of running changes between the late 90s and early 2000s.
Good luck.

The 99 has a running 4.6L but is stock, the 01 has a blow 5.4L but has 7in of lift. I know thats alot of work for a 4.6L to do but I was debating which is more work unlifting one to lift the other or doing the motor swap. Ideas? Basidez wut makes ya thank Texans tok funny nehow.
Hope I was able to clear up the questions. And thank you for the advice.
Side note: what area of WI you in?

What I was asking was not what you would do, I understand it is a suggestion and im sure there are great pointers there. The question was what all is involved and required for the swap. I am trying to determine which is less of a hassle.
7 in of body lift is not realistic anywhere, naturally it would be a 4in susp and 3in body if not total susp lift. In my case the first mentioned set up.
If anyone would like to give input on the original purpose of the thread that would be greatly appreciated, otherwise thanks anyhow.

I just told you what is the least hassel. I don't care what you do. It is your time, just tellling you the way to go that makes sense. You haven't listed your preferences of what you like. Do you want a lifted 5.4L, or a lifted 4.6L. If you have a lifted 16 valve, You might appreciate its torque down the road, if you use it as a heavy truck pulling stuff. If it is a simple daily driver, do you really want a tall lift, or a more moderate lift with the 4.6L. Either way you go its not going to be easy. Sell one of them to do the other is the way to go. You can part it out if you want.

Sounds like rock crawling in your future. Was tempeted to get a Jeep once myself, thay had welded the steer sector to the front of the truck though and steering was loose. I could half ground off the welds but it kinda bashed me. Went with a 74 Blazer 350 full time 4x4 auromatic and did some treatments to the 350, loved those chevy small blocks, lots of parts for them. That lifted body 5.4L will swap a motor real easy now with the removal of the inner fenders. It's amazing the things one can do with the front tires off and the inner fenders removed. Ideas begin to come together. Very reliable 16 valve just another gallon of gas is all. Maybe even supercharge it for thrills offroad. See if you can fit one of those dual throttle bodies onto it with a shaker hood scoup to finish off the motor area. Track bars and suspension lifts, really big grit tires, with truly strong axles. A good down the line project maybe? Another great off road Hunter! I even cut out the top of the cab and put in a very big removable window. The kids would remove the glass and stand in the front, ( swapped the bucket seats for captains chairs that swiveled), heads out the top when we were sitting around in the mountains. LOL

It was a 76 sorry for the typo. Silver with a black removable top. I put the original bucket seats in the back facing out so the kids could see. I built it in 78 to go off road with the kids attached. Worked well and could breath the high mountain air on the low side of the transfer case with RPM's to spare. Sold it in 82 to a friend who had youngsters that age too, as mine had grown some by then. If I come across an old photo, I will put in in my album. Had several fords before I bought the Blazer, just loved the small block chevy's versatility and parts availability. It really could handle deep snow or mud, and off roading. The only thing I ever had fail was the S joint on the front drive shaft, had to pull it and rejoint it at 38,000. After that it was good to go. Did a Toyota 87 4 runner after that with removable top and top glass for obvious reasons. My new F150 is my best so far. It took me all this time to make the choice with common sense needed only. + 2 more young grandchildren. Their traveling goal is DVD's LOL
