Running the exhaust under the gas tank

I've been wanting to run a true dual exhaust and have a pipe exit in front of the tires on both driver and passenger side. As everyone knows the gas tank is in the way.

I have the factory skid plate under the gas tank.
If I run a pipe under under it, wouldn't the air running under the truck keep the pipe cool? Also, the skid plate should keep any of the heat the pipe creates away from the gas tank correct?

I know you'll be able to see the pipe if you look under the truck, but as long it's not going to affect the gas/tank I'm ok with that. Truck sits high enouph for it not to hit anything going down the road. I dont off road either.

Just wanted to get some opinions on rather or not the heat from it will affect the gas tank. Again the Skip plate is there.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks!!

ps: this is on a 99 5.4 4x4 extended cab.

I had dual exhaust like you want on an older Ford. I ended up hating it. Every time I went to a drive thru I had to shut the truck off to comunicate and that was with turbo mufflers. I think you'd be better off cutting out the Y and running the duals down the passenger side. Here is a pic of what I did to my 07 5.4L:

I agree w/ V10man, had exhaust exit in front of the rear tires on my 65 for way too many years. Rcently had shop route them out the rear and it's like the difference between night and day. If you have A/C and keep the windows rolled up then perhaps; otherwise, suggest routing anywhere other than near the cab and save yourself a 'headache'.

Besides which, your fuel pump will not last forever. In most cases you either have to drop the tank or remove the bed to get to the fuel pump. If you have to drop the tank, do you really want anything in the way.

I agree with the others hear, true duals are overrated at best, most who have gotten them are disappointed with the results, especially considering how good false duals sound. The true duals have no performance benefits, so why would you want to?
