Dana 60 conversion with shackle reversal completed!
Hey guys,
I am looking into buying a Dana 60 from an 88 F350 to do a SAS on my 93 F250.
Here is his description;
High Pinion King Ping Dana 60 Front Axle, driver side drop, "Open Carrier", 4.10 gears, from an 88 F350. Axle was recently rebuilt with new inner seals, carrier bearings, king pins/bearings, brake pads, calipers, rebuilt axle hubs, new axle U joints. I'll include the steering linkage, ubolt conversion, and front leaf springs if wanted.
It sounds like he has the spring mounts which I know I will need. I have done a lot of reading already on the subject. What else do I need to know? My truck has a 4" lift on it now will any of that be useable or is the lift for a 60 Different?
I like the fact that the axle is already rebuilt and is a king pin. $1,200 is the going rate for a king pin Dana 60 in any condition around here. What do you all think? He also has a Sterling 10.25 with a posi carrier and new drum brakes, for 350. It would be nice to have it to bench and rebuild any thoughts on that?
Thanks,
Mac.
Some new questions,
Here are some pictures of my current lift and Dana 50
Will the Dana 60 bolt in direct to this lift?
I can get the F350 springs with the axle but I don't want to mess with the RSK right now. Maybe later when I have more time. If it will bolt in do I just need the track bar drop bracket? what about the drive shaft? I can't imagine they are interchangeable. I am just trying to figure out if I want to mess with this right now or wait until I move to Denver next month. I can get the Dana 60 from an 88 and a Sterling 10.25 out of a 97 with new brakes for 1300 and my truck needs brakes. I think I am going to buy them the question is when I am going to tear into her. What kind of time do you think I am looking at to R&R both axles? can it be done in a long weekend?
Thanks.
Mac.

Do a shackle reversal and ditch the trac bar. Go to sky manufacturing, their kit will bolt right in to your truck. Those 4" springs will work with the 60, they may ride a bit rough, but if that happens, remove a leaf from each pack. 350 bucks is way to much for that sterling. 150 bucks or so gets you one ah day er day round here lol
As far as that 60, if you got the money, jump on it, if you're pretty sure it actually is rebuilt. Sounds like a sweet deal.

if its got all the new parts in it that dosent sound like a bad deal. if you feal like gomming to ohio i have a stearling you can have..lol and unless the shackle reversial has a method of eliminating the trac bar id recomend keeping it. unless you plan on off roading your truck alot and flexing out the suspenson alot. on the road at speeds with out the trac bar you can run in to some problems with a wicked vibration or shimmy.

The track bar is there mainly because of the front shackles being designed for the ttb and having no real lateral stability, which is what causes the nasty driveability issues. With a shackle reversal you are swapping to a standard full width shackle which wasn't designed to twist side to side like the ttb ones need to do due to the arc the suspension travels in, thereby being much more stable and eliminating the need for a track bar.
