new truck

hi guys im looking at purchasing an 04 f150 4x4 with a 4.6 im not familiar with the newer f150s my 99 was totaled by a young kid 2weeks ago. Is their any issues i should be aware of with these trucks? i dont believe the 4.6 has the cam phasers that go bad or the spark plugs that break off. the mileage is high though it has 324000 kms my 5.4 had 387 000 when the kid totaled it and i had no issues with that truck.

the 4.6 is a great motor and doesn't have the issues that the 5.4 3v has. The only real complaints for the rest of the truck would be some were prone to vibration problems, which a test drive should reveal. People also have had problems with vacuum leaks wreaking havoc with the 4x4 system since the IWE's use vacuum pressure to keep them unlocked, unlike your '99 that uses vacuum to lock the front axle. There are alot of threads on the 4x4 issues so if you would have a problem you will be able to get it figured out. Other than that the '04+ trucks are pretty solid.

still havent bought a new truck i pretty well torn between to f150s both have 5.4s 1 is an o1 supercrew with 193 kms and the other is an 05 f150 extendedcab with 190 kms on it. are the problems with 04 and up 5.4s as played up as they are? like this 05 is clean good service records plugs were changed regular oil changes im a lil concerned about the cam phaser issue this truck isnt making any noise what so ever but i know it will be expensive. Is this a real major issue or is it just alot og hype? im aware with the older trucks throwing plugs but ive never seen it happen yet y 99 had 387 on it and it never had issues. also is the heater core on the newer trucks easier to change? thanks in advance

My 06 is great and has none of the problems many people complain about. Yes the spark plugs are still there but I believe most have found proven ways to make it easier for the plugs to come out. The 05's and 04's had the phaser issue and so did early 06's but this can be fixed.
