Need help with a short in fuel pump electrical

I have a 1993 FORD f350 4X4, 5.8 GAS, with duel fuel tanks. Previous owner switched out pivot fuel tank selector switch for a toggle. The side tank and pump seem to operate fine, the rear has a short in the line. Upon inspecting the female connector in the wiring harness, it appears to have melted at one wire connection. Could a bad switch cause this? or did someone screw up the wiring? I have gotten a used switch from a salvage yard with the whole wiring harness, but the wire color is all different and I want to make sure that I have the right sequence before splicing it in. Also not sure that the fuel selector valve is not the problem. Could it casue the problem I have discribed? I have a wiring diagam that I think tells me were what goes, but I'm really new to all this and don't really know what I'm looking at. I took on this project truck so that I could learn, totally up for the adventure, so please, no dumb blond comments, I've probably heard them all before.:-x24

The 93 doesn't have a fuel selector "valve" per-se. The switching is done internally to the pump modules. What year truck did your switch and wiring harness come from? It must have come from a 92-96 (97 25/350) to be correct.

Use the diagrams in THIS THREAD as reference.

Thanks for your help. It came off a 95 F 250, I think, I was pulling a lot of parts that day. It has the same 6 wire configuration, and I pulled the instrument dash panel it is mounted on with it, because it was in better shape than mine, so it shouldn't be too far off in age. The problem comes with my wires being reds, yellow blue orange and black, the switch I got is all black and browns, so it's no help as far as comparison. I can provide pics, of both, but I'm new to "forums" in general and have no idea How to post them, and may not be allowed to yet.

The diesel wiring has brown wiring so you must have gotten the switch from a diesel salvage. Here is the selector switch pinout from the 1993 service manual.

and the 1995, for references.

OH, I should ask

If there will be any issues with my splicing in the diesel switch? it all looks to be a match other than wire color. Though I had my local Car Quest parts store (which is great by the way though I may need to order one heck of a gift basket for them come Christmas) order one in for comparison and their switch wouldn't have fit my harness, even if the harness wasn't melted to H e double hock sticks and back.

will it work

OK, now I'm confused. So if i wire the diesel switch as if it were the gas switch, will it work, or do I need to go find a gas switch? Or do you know?

Find yourself another switch and pigtail for a gas powered truck.

Here is a switch, one of many, and if you cannot find a connector let me know.

SWITCH

The diagrams are from FORD online. Only Ford Parts Catalog I have is 1996 and it shows:
F2TZ-9A050-A as being F150, F250, F350, F(SuperDuty) GAS
F2TZ-9A050-B as being F250, F350, F(SuperDuty) DIESEL
